I’m always fascinated to learn how others do it, so I thought I’d share a bit about how I work. My systems work for me and my hope is that one day you will find the system that works for you. The moment that everything comes together and you begin to completely and unequivocally trust your system is magical. It doesn’t happen overnight and it’s likely that your system will continue to evolve. If you would like assistance finding your system, please let me know.
I can work just about anywhere thanks to a flexible system that blends digital and traditional technology.
My computer is a small and light weight laptop (11″ Apple MacBook Air, 8GB RAM, 256GB flash storage) that I supplement with a Nexus 7 tablet (32GB) and a 4 year old Samsung Galaxy phone.
My planner system (written about extensively on my personal site) is a hybrid digital/paper solution with multiple Google calendars, an A5 Filofax Flex with weekly diary and multiple notebooks, and a Quo Vadis Trinote, and lots of text files managed through a highly modified version of Gina Trapani‘s todo.txt application. I also can’t live without 3×5 index cards or a rainbow set of highlighters. I love index cards so much, I based some of my marketing materials on them!
The nature of my work results in a workspace that is often chaotic and messy, but I work hard to keep it tidy. My office is in the basement and it’s cold year round despite extra heaters so I often work elsewhere in the house, especially when that work is knitting or crocheting for my other business, Little Acorn Creations.
Next time I’ll look a bit deeper into one specific part of my system. How do you work?
