A year ago, I made a commitment to work deeper. It was successful, for the most part. Under my current client-work model, attention residue is quite sticky. This often causes projects to become mired in details instead of moving forward. While I made progress on reducing the stick last year, the processes are still a work in progress.
I’m not changing everything at once because I believe strongly in incremental change. New habits require time (please read my book review for atomic habits). The plan is to continue focusing on the parts I find most often glossed over. These include technology evaluation, documentation of the business, and training.
Continuing
My goal is to help small business owners and nonprofits better understand their technology. What choices are available and appropriate for different budgets? A solution that works for a start-up may not be best for an established business.
My offerings cover a range of technical needs. I can assist at the beginning of a project with software evaluation and continue through learning how to use it. It has also become clear to me that unless someone makes you do it it’s unlikely that any documentation of your business will get written. What if you want to go on vacation and need someone to keep an eye on the office? The last thing you want to do before heading off is to stress that you’ve remembered to write the important bits.
Changes
I need to connect better with you and not be overwhelmed by social media expectations. This is a solo woman-owned business and out-sourcing social media is not something I want to do. I’m going to try to do more outreach with twitter as @pennywseconsult and through my @pennyshima Instagram account.
I know that overall there will be greater integration of my pen at work project, however I’m still figuring out how this all meshes and weaves together.
Who knows, I might even begin sending a newsletter again!

Continuing in my effort to reach out to you, what practical technology solutions are you looking for in these blog posts?
Do you wish there were more articles showing comparisons of specific software? Would templates help you start documenting your business and its technology? When you hear about emerging technology do you long for an English translation?
